SuperficialWound Swabbing A novel method of sampling and processing wound fluid for subsequent immunoassay analysis in diabetic foot ulcerations
نویسندگان
چکیده
OBJECTIVEdIn diabetic foot ulcers, wound fluid inflammatorymediators have previously been proposed as surrogate markers for nonhealing. However, currently available wound fluid sampling techniques are not suitable for clinical practice due to low levels of exudate and a high logistical effort. The aim of this investigation was to assess 1) the technique of superficial wound swabbing for harvesting wound fluid; and 2) the quality of the collected fluid for immunoassay analysis of inflammatory mediators.

متن کاملConcordance in diabetic foot ulceration: a cross-sectional study of agreement between wound swabbing and tissue sampling in infected ulcers.
BACKGROUND There is inadequate evidence to advise clinicians on the relative merits of swabbing versus tissue sampling of infected diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). OBJECTIVES To determine (1) concordance between culture results from wound swabs and tissue samples from the same ulcer; (2) whether or not differences in bacterial profiles from swabs and tissue samples are clinically relevant; (3) co...
متن کاملWound fluid in diabetic foot ulceration: more than just an undefined soup?
Valid and reproducible sampling techniques as well as processing protocols are required for the assessment of biomarkers and mediators contained in wound exudate. Moreover, the ideal technique should be easy to use even in daily clinical routine. This is challenging since wound fluid represents an inhomogeneous mixture of different exogenous and endogenous sources. Analyzing wound fluid, howeve...
متن کاملComparison of depression in diabetic patients with and without foot wound
Introduction: Long-term complications of diabetes leads to physical and mental weakness and reduce their quality of life. One of the complications is the chronic wounds of extremities. Because of its outcome, patient’s adaptation can be reduced. The aim of this study was to compare depression between diabetic patients with and without foot wounds. Materials and methods: The comparati...
متن کاملتأثیر درمان فشاری- مکشی (VCT) بر ترمیم زخم پای بیماران دیابتی
Background & objeative: Among the most common problems in patients with diabetes mellitus is the faulty healing of foot ulcer wounds which leads to foot or leg amputations. Many attempts were done to treat diabetic foot ulcers. This study evaluated the effect of vacuum-compression therapy (VCT) on healing diabetic foot ulcers. Materials & Methods: A single-blinded, randomized clinical trial was...
